It’s not Black or White, It’s Gray

It’s not black or white, it’s gray

Color her happy
slightly hurt
bubblegum perky
or even chocolate dessert.

Shade him in light
moonlight gray
or even no shade.

Draw them next to each other
on a bench
at the mall.
A stop sign at the end of
a long dirt road.
Watching a sunset
creating life.
The artist’s thoughts animated.

Piece after piece of paper
connected by glue.

The artist holds
his left hand at the seam.
The right handed thumb
flips the corner.
Slip by slip
these drawings
a story.

The lines of pencil
inch closer.
Creating scene after scene.

Nothing is ever black and white,
it’s grey it seems.

Color is invented
Scenes change
An artist somewhere
made me
